PITCHING WORKSHOP
with TERI LORETTO
Saturday, Dec 17, 2022 - 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Location: DARC the Loop
This venue requires proof of vaccination and masking.
Teri will work directly with 5 screenwriters to hone their story arc and perfect their verbal pitch in a peer environment, preparing them to pitch to a panel of producers on Sunday. Teri draws on her decades of experience as a program coordinator and professional screenwriter, leading the Algonquin College Scriptwriting program. This included helping students prepare pitches for film, TV series, and documentaries at local events like Pitch Perfect! and Digi60, and Scriptwriting’s annual Toronto Pitching Trip, with broadcasters and producers such as CTV, CBC, eOne and Boat Rocker. She will provide honest, constructive feedback to writers based on industry trends and outlooks, so pitchees can build their pitch effectively. Pitchees will also have the benefit of peer support and constructive peer feedback.
December 18, 2022 - PITCHING & PRODUCER MENTORSHIP PANEL
Pitchees will present their verbal pitch to a panel of producers who will provide feedback and constructive mentorship to round out their project. The Pitchees will also get an opportunity to ask the producers about their process for choosing projects, industry trends, and career advice.
This live pitch is open to the public so as to simulate a real-life live pitch scenario. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Panelists will be announced along with the selected pitches on December 5th.
Teri (She/Elle) holds a BA and an MA from the University of Ottawa and is the current Coordinator for the Scriptwriting and Performing Arts programs at Algonquin College. She is often onstage (Shirley Valentine, Detroit, Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike), on the big screen (Summer’s Blood, Metal Tornado, The Buckley Brothers), or filling in at CBC TV and Radio (CBC News at Six, In Town and Out). She has produced and directed over 35 stage plays in the last decade and written dozens of scripts for radio plays, interviews, short film and is working on a pilot for The Cold War, a series based loosely on her father's experiences as a Cold War fighter pilot set against the backdrop of 1960s Quebec's language and civil rights struggles. No takers yet but pitching (and rejection!) is something all screenwriters need to get comfortable with. She is a previous juror for Digi60, the Prix Rideau Awards and serves on the ACTRA Ottawa board.
