Speaker: Ash Barbu presenting “Narrative Closure and the End of AIDS”
In this keynote lecture presented on the occasion of Day With(out) Art 2024, artist and curator Ash Barbu will consider relations of invisibility and assimilation through the myth of the “post-AIDS” moment. Drawing upon a range of contemporary art practices, including their recent photographic work, this presentation will explore the discontents of resolution fantasies that seek to distract from the conditions of the historical present.
This screening and lecture is open to the public, the screening is free but donations are welcome!
The screening program features new work by Gian Cruz, Milko Delgado, Imani Harrington, David Oscar Harvey, Mariana Iacono and Juan De La Mar, Nixie, and Vasilios Papapitsios.
A day of mourning and action that uses art to respond to the ongoing HIV and AIDS crisis, Day With(out) Art encourages museums, universities, and art institutions to present related programming on or around December 1, World AIDS Day. Because AIDS is not over!
