On September 15th, an event at the DARC Microcinema in downtown Ottawa kicked off the 2024 Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival.
Nearly 70 people attended the event, filling the room to standing room only and spilling into the hallway. Starting then, filmmakers now have 60 days to complete and submit a short film that includes the catch, theme or idea of BELONGING.
Screenwriters received the catch a week early, and following the general catch release had the opportunity to pitch their script ideas to registered filmmakers. Attendees were also treated to a panel of past festival filmmakers, discussing their creative processes and what to expect from the 60-Day Challenge. The recipients of this year’s BIPOC Creators Microgrant were also announced.
Filmmakers now have until 15 November at 7pm to submit their films.
The 2024 Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival will be held from 6–8 December at the Ottawa Art Gallery, DARC, Club SAW and Arts Court. Tickets for the festival go on sale on 4 November.
